Taking a Big Step

A large part of my journey as a photographer has been doing my best to translate a human emotion into an image.  It is so rewarding and fulfilling, and it's something that I am constantly working to improve.  Having said that, over the last couple years when people have asked me if I shoot weddings, I have immediately responded with a firm, "No".  I didn't want the pressure, the responsibility, the risk.  But the pull of real life moments kept pulling…and that feeling when you know as a photographer that you have caught that emotion and that special interaction on camera is exhilarating…and I knew the day two people come together in love was just the real life I needed to start shooting.  I couldn't fight it anymore.  So here I am, shooting weddings.  SMALL weddings!  INTIMATE weddings!  Weddings where I can really get around to everyone in the room as one photographer - just me and my camera- and freeze the real life.

Today I was honored to photograph a wedding with my friend and fellow photographer, Jeff Black.  He asked me to shoot with him and I jumped at the opportunity…especially because it was for a friend.  It was so wonderful seeing her again, and she made the most beautiful bride.  I hope these images help her to remember this day, and I hope they make her smile.

They pretty much held hands from this moment on…I loved it!

The groom's family lives overseas and weren't able to travel for the wedding, so the bride and groom set up a laptop in order for them to be part of their special day via Skype. Her new mother-in-law just asked her to "take care of my son".  Such a sweet moment (and if I am going to be doing this I am going to have to invest in some waterproof mascara).
